Richard Prince

Louis Vuitton SS8Richard Prince’s « Nurse » paintings (« Dude Ranch Nurse » and « Man-Crazy Nurse ») inspired the nurses of the Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2008 Show, a collection Richard Prince collaborated on (especially for the « Monogram Jokes » bags, inspired by his « Jokes » paintings, the « Cartoon Firebird » bags, and the invitation cards ; furthermore, the « SpongeBob » small case that Marc Jacobs was carrying for his salute was a reference to Richard Prince’s « SpongeBob » paintings, on the back of checks, and the vintage yellow Dodge car which appeared in that collection’s Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott-shot campaign, alongside Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Angela Lindvall, Claudia Schiffer, Stephanie Seymour and Natalia Vodianova, referenced a Richard Prince’s installation).

Some Richard Prince’s collaborations : Comme des Garçons (in 2003, Comme des Garçons launched some T-shirts printed with pictures of Richard Prince’s works, in collaboration with the Sadie Coles HQ gallery, in London), Fendi (in 2008, Richard Prince customized a « Baguette » bag), Marni by Consuelo Castiglioni Spring/Summer 2007 (some prints were commissioned from Richard Prince).

Courtney Love

The Meadham Kirchhoff Spring/Summer 2012 Show featured Courtney Love-inspired looks.

Other Courtney Love-influenced collections : Dior Spring/Summer 2004 (Courtney Love was one of the inspirations of this collection originally influenced by Marlene Dietrich), Dries Van Noten Spring/Summer 2013 (the shoes and Peter Philips’ makeup of this grunge-influenced collection were slightly inspired by Courtney Love), Felder Felder Autumn/Winter 2008-2009, Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2012 (a picture of Courtney Love, in her evening-gown-and-tiara-era, was tacked on the inspiration board ; moreover, Courtney Love is one of Marc Jacobs’ inspirations, for his own brand), Meadham Kirchhoff Spring/Summer 2007 (as part of Fashion East), Quail Spring/Summer 2009 (as part of Gen Art Fresh Faces), 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring/Summer 2013 (some shoes were named after Courtney Love, who inspired some pieces too).

Furthermore, Hedi Slimane photographed Courtney Love during her small tour, for the « Portrait Of A Performer : Courtney Love by Hedi Slimane » book, published by Visionaire Publishing, in 2007 ; Peaches Geldof featured, dressed Courtney Love-style, in the « People vs. Peaches Geldof » fashion shoot, photographed by Edouard Plongeon and styled by Anne Sophie Thomas, in the June 2009 issue of French « Jalouse » (from page 130 to page 140) ; in October 2012, Courtney Love revealed details of her clothing line, named Never The Bride (items repurposed from vintage clothes, influenced both by grunge and Victorian styles).

The Terminator

The robot’s articulations in James Cameron’s « The Terminator » influenced pants in the Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière Spring/Summer 2007 Collection.

Other « The Terminator »-inspired items : Jamie Cockerill (his Central Saint Martins BA Fashion Show, in June 2009, featured « The Terminator »-style body-hugging pieces), Nike (« Nike Terminator High » sneakers, in 3 different versions, launched in June 2010).

Moreover, Pierre Cardin organized a party at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival to honor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was then getting ready for the release of Jonathan Mostow’s « Terminator 3 : Rise of the Machines ».

The colors of Michael Patrick King’s « Sex and the City 2 » shot-in-Marrakesh scenes influenced the Acne Spring/Summer 2012 Collection.

Some « Sex and the City »-inspired campaign, items or windows : Barneys New York (in November 2003, Barneys New York asked Behnaz Sarafpour, Isabel Toledo, Proenza Schouler and Zac Posen to create a « Sex and the City »-inspired dress for each of the actresses’ caricature, respectively Sarah Jessica Parker’s, Cynthia Nixon’s, Kristin Davis’ and Kim Cattrall’s, for Barneys New York’s « Sex and the City »-dedicated windows), (in May 2008, to celebrate the release of Michael Patrick King’s 1st «Sex and the City » film, rereleased the iconic « Your Name in Diamonds » necklace, as a tribute to Carrie Bradshaw’s « Carrie » necklace), Jimmy Choo (in June 2011, Jimmy Choo released a capsule collection that featured the brand’s emblematic shoes, including the « Feather » sandals worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in « Sex and the City »), Manolo Blahnik (Manolo Blahnik has created the « SJP » slingbacks, available in crêpe de Chine, leather or suede, as an homage to Sarah Jessica Parker’s « Sex and the City » character, Carrie Bradshaw, who was obsessed with his footwear designs), Revlon (the Revlon campaign, launched in April 2004, which starred Halle Berry, Jaime King, Eva Mendes and Julianne Moore, was influenced by the « Sex and the City » heroines).

Rebecca Horn’s installation of 2 shotguns that fire blood-red paint at each other inspired the finale of the Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 1999 Show, named « N° 13 », when 2 huge robots projected paint on Shalom Harlow’s dress.
