Deetz SS13

Lydia Deetz, Winona Ryder’s character in Tim Burton’s « Beetlejuice » influenced the Deetz Spring/Summer 2013 Collection, designed by Amy Currie.

Other Beetlejuice-inspired collections : Costello Tagliapietra Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (the spectral influence of this collection was based on the prints painted by Jeffrey Costello, which looked like something taken from « Beetlejuice »), James Long Spring/Summer 2013 (James Long told « British Vogue » that this collection was about « a kind of a PJ Harvey meets Beetlejuice »), Quentin Veron Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 (partly based on « Beetlejuice »).

Furthermore, Altuzarra’s Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 Collection was inspired by the aesthetic of Tim Burton’s movies, and Henry Holland dressed as Betelgeuse, the character portrayed by Michael Keaton, both for Halloween 2007 and Halloween 2008.

« A kind of a PJ Harvey meets Beetlejuice » is what James Long told « British Vogue » to describe his Spring/Summer 2013 Collection.

Other PJ Harvey-influenced collections : Felder Felder Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 (this collection, partly based on PJ Harvey, was « feminine, cool and a little bit raunchy », according to Annette and Daniela Felder), Jill Stuart Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (this collection was inspired by the women close to Nick Cave), 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring/Summer 2013 (some shoes were named after PJ Harvey, who also inspired some pieces).

Jeremy Scott AW67 PizzaPizza was referenced via a motif in the Jeremy Scott Autumn/Winter 2006-2007 Show, « Eat the Rich » (this collection also featured a « pizza » print, comics-style, on a sweatshirt).

Some pizza-style items : Moschino (in September 1991, the « In Pizza We Trust » shopping bag was sold at Bloomingdale’s Tempo d’Italia promotion), P.A.M. (circa 2008, P.A.M. released a reversible jacket, made in collaboration with CLOT, which was presented in a pizza packaging), (in 2011, the « Pizza Shirt » T-shirts, with a « pizza » print, were launched in 2 versions, «Real Deal Pep», for a « pepperoni pizza »-inspired motif, and «Garden Swag», for a « vegetable »-influenced pattern).

Furthermore, in 1988, when Donna Karan launched her DKNY line, she said that it was « the pizza to her Collection’s caviar », and pizza was one of the things that were revisited in knits for Benetton’s SoHo pop-up / art installation, in December 2012.

Other Victor Vasarely-influenced collections : Ichiro Suzuki (the menswear collection that Ichiro Suzuki presented in July 2012, as part of the 2012 International Talent Support competition, was inspired in part by Victor Vasarely’s optical paintings), Jean-Louis Scherrer by Stéphane Rolland Couture Autumn/Winter 2005-2006 (Victor Vasarely-inspired woven motifs), Jonathan Saunders Spring/Summer 2013 Menswear (Victor Vasarely-influenced pieces), Marie José Morato (in 2010, she developed a hologram jewelry line as an homage to Victor Vasarely), Orla Kiely Autumn/Winter 2005-2006 (a printed top echoed Victor Vasarely’s paintings), Pedro Lourenço Spring/Summer 2011 (as a starting point of this collection, Pedro Lourenço stuck photocopies of Victor Vasarely’s paintings on his mood board), Pierre Hardy Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 (Victor Vasarely-inspired optical print on leather hi-top sneakers), Pino Lancetti 1968 (Victor Vasarely-inspired collection), Ports 1961 Pre-Fall 2012 (Victor Vasarely-style prints).

Some Malcolm McLaren’s collaborations or Malcolm McLaren-inspired items or shows : Dries Van Noten Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 (Malcolm McLaren provided the soundtrack of this show), Isabel Marant (in 1985, inspired by Malcolm McLaren’s style, Isabel Marant, when she was adolescent, decided to make clothes from dishcloths), Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2013 (the soundtrack of this show featured Malcolm McLaren’s « Jazz In Paris »), Sonia Rykiel (in 1994, Sonia Rykiel co-wrote and sang with Malcolm McLaren on « Who The Hell Is Sonia Rykiel ? », taken from Malcolm McLaren’s « Paris » album), Sophie Theallet (in 1978, Sophie Theallet fell in love with Malcolm McLaren’s universe, created with Vivienne Westwood, in London), Vivienne Westwood (from 1970 to 1983, Malcolm McLaren has collaborated with Vivienne Westwood, his then-girlfriend, including for the opening of the Let it Rock store, on 430, King’s Road, in London, in 1970, and for the launch of the punk fashion, in 1976).

Some Kate Moss’ collaborations : Coty (Kate Moss has released several perfumes, in collaboration with Coty), Kate Moss for FRED Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (line of jewels designed by Kate Moss, inspired by her own tattoos; this collaboration was reiterated the following seasons), Longchamp (Kate Moss created a line of bags for Longchamp, which were unveiled in 2010 ; this collaboration was repeated), Rimmel London Lipstick Collection By Kate Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (makeup line, in collaboration with Kate Moss, launched on September 15, 2011), Topshop by Kate Moss (Kate Moss has designed exclusive lines for Topshop, influenced by her own style, during several seasons ; the 1st one was released on May 1, 2007).

JPG AW1213 CésarThe skirt made with pieces of leather jackets in the Jean Paul Gaultier Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 Show referenced César’s compressions.

Other César-inspired item or César’s collaboration : Emanuel Ungaro (in 1991, he designed a bridal dress inspired by César’s sculpture), Louis Vuitton (in 1988, César created the « Mixed Prints / Impressions mêlées » silk scarf, with an « undulated sheet metal » motif for Louis Vuitton).

Moreover, in 1982, César designed with Sonia Rykiel the bar de l’Obélisque of the Hôtel de Crillon, in Paris, and, from December 7, 1997 until March 8, 1998, an Alaïa-designed dress was displayed near César’s « Fragonard » compression, during the « Alaïa » exhibition, at the Groninger Museum.
