Shanghai

11 Feb

Georges Chakra Couture SS13The buildings of Shanghai influenced the Georges Chakra Couture Spring/Summer 2013 Show.

Other Shanghai-inspired collections : Armani Privé Spring/Summer 2009 (based on Shanghai during the ’30s), Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Pre-Fall 2010 (« Paris- Shanghai » collection), Diane von Furstenberg Autumn/Winter 2008-2009 (Shanghai was referenced in this collection, especially via prints), Jason Wu Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (one of the references of this China-influenced collection was Josef von Sternberg « Shanghai Express » film), Ralph Lauren Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (this collection evoked the Shanghai Bund, in the ’30s), Rick Owens Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (the headpieces of this collection revisited, in a brutalist version, Marlene Dietrich’s veil in Josef von Sternberg « Shanghai Express »), Tadashi Shoji Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (inspired by Shanghai’s Golden Age), Zac Posen Spring/Summer 2007 (some pieces were reminiscent of Shanghai in the ’30s).

Furthermore, the October 2005 issue of « Vogue Paris » was dedicated to Shanghai, and, in 2010, Dior released the Shanghai-inspired « Escale à Shanghai » perfume, which was exclusively available at Shanghai’s Dior boutique, to celebrate its reopening.

Thank you so much for your kind words ! I also love when architecture meets fashion because it often creates really graphic and strong pieces !

Thanks for the post – very fashion forward. Love the blocks of color within the dress – yet it still looks soft, subtle and elegant all at the same time.

Thanks for your adorable comment ! I also love the fact that you can guess a hint of blue : when the model turned on the catwalk, it really surprised me because I didn’t expect to see another electric color on this gorgeous dress !
