Madonna and Child

29 Mar

JP GAULTIERThe Madonna and Child were honored on the « stained glass » motif of a dress in the Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring/Summer 2007 Show, which was a tribute to the Virgins (the soundtrack, for the finale, mixed by Frédéric Sanchez, featured Madonna’s « Like a Virgin »).

Other collections with references to Madonna and Child or Virgin Mary : Arkadius Spring/Summer 2002 (this show, which paid homage to the adoration of the Virgin, highlighted « Madonna and Child » appliqués), Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 1998 (this collection showcased, among other religious symbols, images of the Virgin Mary), Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Spring/Summer 2013 Menswear (T-shirts printed with abstract « Madonna » faces), Teenage Millionaire (from 2002, Dougie Williams and Chris Hoy have printed images of the Virgin Mary, with the « Mary is my homegirl » slogan, on T-shirts), Versace Autumn/Winter 1991-1992 (in this collection, Gianni Versace referenced the Madonna and Child).

Furthermore, Francesco Vezzoli revisited Madonna-and-Child paintings, from the 15th and 16th centuries, replacing the Virgins’ features with the faces of supermodels such as Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Claudia Schiffer and Stephanie Seymour, for his « Sacrilegio » exhibition, which was presented at New York’s Larry Gagosian Gallery, from February 5 until March 12, 2011.

The print of the child look as though he is standing on the model’s hand…a fascinating design!

Happy holiday to you~ Cheers!! 😀
