In the Mood for Love

21 Aug

Didit Hediprasetyo Couture AW1314

Wong Kar-wai’s « In the Mood for Love » influenced the Didit Hediprasetyo Couture Autumn/Winter 2013-2014 Show, which spotlighted cheongsam-inspired outfits, and the Hong Kong skyline on a backdrop.

Other « In the Mood for Love »-inspired shows or items : Chanel (the « Orient Extrême » line, launched in 2009, and created by Peter Philips for Chanel’s « Paris-Shanghai » show, was inspired by « In the Mood for Love »), Derek Lam (some of his early floral cocktail dresses have been based on « In the Mood for Love »), Erdem Spring/Summer 2012 (this collection was a fantasy based on Wong Kar-wai’s « In the Mood for Love » and Otto Preminger’s « Bonjour tristesse »), Ermenegildo Zegna Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (the « In the Mood for Love » original score was the soundtrack of this show), Huishan Zhang Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (this collection was inspired by Maggie Cheung’s 23 different cheongsams in « In the Mood for Love »), 3.1 Phillip Lim Autumn/Winter 2008-2009 (this collection was partly influenced by the romanticism and the sensuality of « In the Mood for Love »), Tory Burch Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (this show referenced the polishness and the sexiness of « In the Mood for Love »), Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2011 (the makeup, by Lucia Pieroni, and the hairstyle, by Jimmy Paul, of this show were based on « In the Mood for Love »), Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche by Tom Ford Autumn/Winter 2004-2005 (the soundtrack of this show, which referenced Yves Saint Laurent’s Couture Autumn/Winter 1977-1978 « Chinese » collection, mixed by DJ Wilson, was based on Wong Kar-wai’s « In the Mood for Love » original score).

Thank you, my dear friend ! Somehow, this subtle and sweet pattern reminds me of china (the porcelain, not the People’s Republic of China !). Cheers !
