Dior Pre-Fall 14

The Dior by Raf Simons Pre-Fall 2014 Collection reinterprets the drawings that René Gruau made for Dior in the ’40s and ’50s.

Other René Gruau-inspired collections : Dior by John Galliano Couture Autumn/Winter 2005-2006 (this show was partly influenced by how Dior’s designs were reflected in the work of René Gruau), Dior by John Galliano Couture Autumn/Winter 2007-2008 (René Gruau’s work for Dior was one of the references of this collection), Dior by John Galliano Couture Spring/Summer 2011 (this show paid homage to the illustrations that René Gruau made for Dior), Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2008 (some hand-painted patterns were based on René Gruau), Rick Owens Spring/Summer 2004 (René Gruau was one of the 2 inspirations of this show).

Simple yet so elegant. I love the cut of the top and I adore black wide leg trousers.

The top’s neckline and straps wouldn’t work for me, but I love the graphic (uhh, the point of the post), those pants and the huge bangle/cuff. Love it!

Interesting that Raf Simons would revisit a designer that was so important to M. Galliano (though obviously important to the House in general). I’m keen to go back and compare the Galliano Dior collections now, to see how the two designers have interpreted the same starting point… I’m a big fan of Raf’s work and adore this romantic look that you’ve pictured.
