Fausto Puglisi AW1415 Sonia Delaunay

Sonia Delaunay was one of the inspirations of the Fausto Puglisi Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show.

Other Sonia Delaunay-influenced collections : Billy Reid Spring/Summer 2014 Menswear (this collection was based on Sonia Delaunay’s way of using lines to separate geometric motifs), Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Spring/Summer 2006 (this show referenced Sonia Delaunay), Clements Ribeiro Spring/Summer 2011 (this show featured stripes based on Sonia Delaunay), Doo.Ri Resort 2012 (Sonia Delaunay’s use of geometry and color inspired Doo-Ri Chung), Hermès (in the ’30s, Hermès collaborated with Sonia Delaunay to create knitted pieces), Jean Paul Gaultier Autumn/Winter 2005-2006 Menswear (Sonia Delaunay’s color blocks were referenced on the patterns of sweaters), Milly Spring/Summer 2012 (the Tetris-like motifs and the color palette of this show made reference to Sonia Delaunay), Perry Ellis (Perry Ellis designed a cashmere tunic in a graphic motif which drew inspiration from Sonia Delaunay), Pino Lancetti 1976 (this collection paid tribute to Sonia Delaunay), Rachel Roy Resort 2013 (to describe her collection, Rachel Roy quoted Sonia Delaunay : « Color is the skin of the world »), Rodier by Emilie Luc-Duc Spring/Summer 2012 (some prints were influenced by Sonia Delaunay), TSE Resort 2012 (this collection was inspired by Sonia Delaunay and Frank Lloyd Wright), Versace (Gianni Versace has sometimes drawn inspiration from Sonia Delaunay).

Furthermore, Alla Malomane, one of Sonia Delaunay’s descendants, has relaunched, for Spring/Summer 2014, Sonia Delaunay’s fashion designs.

In depth historical perspective is always revealing, yes? Love the purple. And the model’s pouty mouth! ; )

Absolutely adore this fabulous dress and the print is so very Sonia inspired…
she does have a unique way of blending colours together in abstract form…
it’s been said that for her she saw colour as ‘The skin of the world’…
these words have stuck with me–as will this print and dress!! ~xo

You’re welcome, thank you ! No wonder this artistic delight makes you think of Yves Saint Laurent’s most memorable ’80s collections, which often paid homage to legendary painters !

That’s quite a list! Your thorough research is appreciated. Sonia Delaunay! Wasn’t she the first living woman to have a retrospective at the Louvre in 1964? I think so. The brochure is fantastical. I’ve always loved her paintings and garb, too. The swim suits are the cat’s pajamas! T. (Great post!)
