J. M. W. Turner

31 May

L'Wren Scott AW1011The L’Wren Scott Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 Show, titled « Tuxedo Terrace », was very inspired by J. M. W. Turner’s paintings of the Loire Valley (in 2011, the late American designer told « British Vogue » that Joseph Mallord William Turner’s works were great for color research for her textiles).

Other J. M. W. Turner-influenced collections : Aquascutum Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 (this show and its corresponding ad campaign drew inspiration from J. M. W. Turner’s stormy landscapes), Mulberry by Emma Hill Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (this show referenced the delicate and gloomy colors of Joseph Mallord William Turner’s landscape paintings).

If this is what stormy looks like, then batten down the hatches, let’s don one of these and create a cataclysmic weather event in a small crowd. Look at the perfection in the detail– nails, shoes, hair, eye makeup. That will be an effort and may take us all day to brew to full gale force winds but we can do it. Time to go out!
