The Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton Resort 2011 Collection drew inspiration from Hans Bellmer’s sinister doll drawings.

Other Hans Bellmer-influenced collections : Acne Studios by Jonny Johansson Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (this show was partly based on how artists such as Hans Bellmer looked at the body), Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 1997 (this show, titled « La Poupée / The Doll », as an homage to Hans Bellmer’s 1935-1936 eponymous work, was dedicated to the German-French surrealist artist), Warren Noronha Spring/Summer 2002 (this show was inspired by Hans Bellmer’s papier-mâché doll art).

Titian was one of the references of the Maya Hansen Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 Show, titled « Queens of Spain ».

Other Titian-influenced collections : Chalayan Autumn/Winter 2013-2014 (paintings by artists such as Titian were projected on the backdrop of this show, entitled « Rise »), Giorgio Armani Autumn/Winter 2003-2004 (the colors of this collection referenced Titian’s work), Vivienne Westwood Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (the hair of this show, styled by Sam McKnight, was based on Titian’s paintings).

Ray Caesar

Givenchy Couture SS8

The Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Couture Spring/Summer 2008 Show, which paid homage to ballet, was inspired by the cold perversity in Ray Caesar’s paintings, and by Edgar Degas’ depictions of ballerinas.

To read about other Edgar Degas-influenced collections, search for the « Edgar Degas » post that I have published on August 17, 2012.
