Eiffel Tower

Maison Anoufa Couture AW1415

One dress in the Maison Anoufa Couture Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show paid homage to the Eiffel Tower.

Other Eiffel Tower-inspired items : Jean Paul Gaultier (the couturier has often paid tribute to the Eiffel Tower, especially in his Couture Autumn/Winter 2000-2001 Show, titled « Paris and its muses / Paris et ses égéries », and in the Jean Paul Gaultier X Pataugas Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 capsule collection), Kenzo by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim Resort 2015 (« Eiffel Tower » motifs on the brass buttons of pea coats), Louis Vuitton by Julie de Libran Resort 2012 (« Eiffel Tower » pattern), Moschino Cheap and Chic Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (look 13 : « Eiffel Tower » print on a dress), Pierrot Autumn/Winter 2004-2005 (« Eiffel Tower » intarsias on sweaters).

Chanel Couture AW1415

The theme of the Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Couture Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show, which mixed modernity with baroque elements, was « Le Corbusier goes to Versailles ».

Other Versailles-inspired collections : Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Resort 2013 (Karl Lagerfeld said that the theme of this collection, presented at Versailles, was « Versailles in a Socialist France »), LaQuan Smith Spring/Summer 2011 (this collection was influenced by Marie Antoinette and Versailles), Maxime Simoëns Couture Spring/Summer 2011 (this show, titled « This, Madame, is Versailles », was inspired by Sofia Coppola’s « Marie Antoinette »), Thakoon Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (this collection was based on the similarities between the costumes worn at Versailles and the Masai outfits).

Zuhair Murad Couture AW1415

Zaha Hadid’s extreme shapes have influenced the Zuhair Murad Couture Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show.

Some Zaha Hadid’s collaborations : Chanel (in 2008, Zaha Hadid designed the Chanel Mobile Art Pod), Donna Karan (Zaha Hadid created the bottle of Donna Karan’s fragrance, « Woman », launched in 2012), Fendi (Zaha Hadid reinterpreted the « Peekaboo » bag, to benefit the charity Kids Company, as part of the « Peekaboo project », launched in April 2014), Lacoste (Zaha Hadid designed shoes for Lacoste, launched in March 2009, which digitally reinterpreted Lacoste’s logo), Louis Vuitton (in 2006, Zaha Hadid redesigned the « Bucket » bag for Louis Vuitton’s exhibition, « Icons », at Louis Vuitton’s Espace Culturel, in Paris, from September 15 to November 22, 2006), melissa® (Zaha Hadid designed the melissa® + Zaha Hadid jelly shoes, launched in September 2008), Swarovski (for Spring/Summer 2010, Zaha Hadid teamed up with Atelier Swarovski to create a cuff, a necklace, a pendant and a ring), United Nude™ (Zaha Hadid designed the haute couture « NOVA » shoe for United Nude™, launched in July 2013, in collaboration with Rem D Koolhaas).

Moreover, in 2008, Christopher Kane told that he particularly loved Zaha Hadid and her work, and, in 2014, Stéphane Rolland told / Arabia that he was personally inspired by architects such as Zaha Hadid, in the research of volume for his haute couture.

Le Corbusier

Chloé Resort 15

Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye, in Poissy, was the starting point of the Chloé by Clare Waight Keller Resort 2015 Collection.

Other Le Corbusier-influenced collections : Anndra Neen (for the designs of their jewelry line, Annette and Phoebe Stephens sometimes draw inspiration from Le Corbusier), Christian Lacroix by Sacha Walckhoff Autumn/Winter 2013-2014 Menswear (Le Corbusier was one of the references of this collection), Davidelfin Spring/Summer 2010 (the palette of this collection, highlighting blues, greens and whites, was based on Le Corbusier’s polychromy), Giambattista Valli Autumn/Winter 2007-2008 (bell and trapeze volumes, geometric motifs, and some reds and yellows were inspired by Le Corbusier), Girard-Perregaux (in 2012, the brand launched 3 watches which paid tribute to Le Corbusier), Noel Stewart Autumn/Winter 2006-2007 (one hat had the shape of one « Le Corbusier cube »), Roksanda Ilincic Spring/Summer 2007 (partly), United Bamboo Spring/Summer 2006 (Le Corbusier’s drawings inspired T-shirts ; when they unveiled this collection, United Bamboo’s designers, Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham, said that they were obsessed with Le Corbusier’s master plan for the city of Chandigarh).

Josef Hoffmann’s architectural oeuvre has inspired the Badgley Mischka Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show.

Other Josef Hoffmann-influenced collections : Andrew Gn Autumn/Winter 2007-2008 (this show was partly based on Josef Hoffmann’s work), Andrew Gn Autumn/Winter 2013-2014 (some motifs referenced Josef Hoffmann), Pianurastudio Autumn/Winter 2008-2009 (Vienna Secession, particularly the work of Josef Hoffmann, inspired this collection), 6267 Autumn/Winter 2008-2009 (in this show, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi paid tribute to Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte), Valentino Couture Autumn/Winter 1989-1990 (some geometric patterns were based on the furniture works of Josef Hoffmann).

Several outfits of the Fausto Puglisi Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty.

Other collections with the Statue of Liberty : Arkadius Spring/Summer 2004 (this collection highlighted various motifs which paid homage to the Statue of Liberty), Catherine Malandrino Spring/Summer 2009 (this show featured a lace-printed silk dress with the Statue of Liberty), In-Process by Hall Ohara Spring/Summer 2014 (this collection, based on Steven Hall and Yurika Ohara’s memories, features screen-printed patterns of famous monuments such as the Statue of Liberty).

Louis Kahn’s Kimbell Art Museum, in Fort Worth, Texas, was the starting point of the Nonoo Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show.

Other Louis Kahn-inspired items and campaign : Anndra Neen (in 2011, Annette and Phoebe Stephens told that Louis Kahn was one of the influences for the designs of their jewelry line), Oscar de la Renta Autumn/Winter 2008-2009 (the setting of the ad campaign for this collection featured Louis Kahn’s Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California).
