« William Shakespeare meets the Brothers Grimm » was the theme of the « Fairy Tale » section of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2014.

To read about other Brothers Grimm-influenced collections, search for the « Snow White » and « Little Red Riding Hood » posts that I have published on February 25, 2014, and on March 2, 2014, respectively.

To read about other William Shakespeare-inspired collections, search for the « William Shakespeare » post that I have published on August 26, 2013.

Susan Sontag

Alexis Mabille Couture AW1415

Susan Sontag’s quote, « What is most beautiful in virile men is something feminine ; what is most beautiful in feminine women is something masculine », taken from her 1966 essay, « Against Interpretation », was the starting point of the Alexis Mabille Couture Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show.

Other Susan Sontag-inspired collections : Basso & Brooke Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (the show notes quoted Susan Sontag’s introduction about the conflicting desires of wanting to be seen but also to hide and blend in), Charles Anastase Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 (some leather jackets were decorated with a « Susan Sontag » inscription), Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2011 (a quote from Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, « Notes on “Camp” », « The relation between boredom and camp taste cannot be overestimated », was on every guest’s seat).
