André Saraiva

Louis Vuitton X André SS14

The « Monogram » shawl that André Saraiva has revisited for Louis Vuitton, as part of the « Foulards d’artistes / artist scarves » Spring/Summer 2014 Collection, is inspired by the drop cloth and the splatters of paint in his studio.

A few André Saraiva’s collaborations : Faith Connexion (André Saraiva shot the lookbook of Annabelle Dexter-Jones’ Spring/Summer 2012 collection for Faith Connexion), Galeries Lafayette (André Saraiva, shot by Jean-Paul Goude, stars in the Galeries Lafayette « L’Homme » Spring/Summer 2014 campaign), André Saraiva X Maison Kitsuné (André Saraiva designed a capsule collection, to celebrate the « Dream Concerts Art Show », dedicated to his artworks of his dream concerts, at Tokyo’s Maison Kitsuné, from September 4 until October 3rd, 2013), Levi’s® X Mr André (André Saraiva created a capsule collection for Levi’s®, which was launched on June 14, 2012), Louis Vuitton (to celebrate the reopening of the Villa Louis Vuitton in Saint-Tropez, on June 18, 2010, André Saraiva illustrated 30 portfolios and 10 drawings which were exhibited, then sold from June 25, 2010), Saint James® (André Saraiva revisited Saint James’® « Naval II » nautical top, available at Colette from July 14, 2011, which he originally created to dress the team of New York’s Le Bain club).

Céline SS14Brassaï’s « Graffiti » photographs have influenced the motifs of the Céline by Phoebe Philo Spring/Summer 2014 Show.

Another Brassaï-inspired collection : Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (this show was partly based on Brassaï’s « Paris by Night » book).

Stephen Sprouse

Stephen Sprouse’s artworks inspired the « Graffiti » motif that he revisited for the Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2001 Show (the Stephen Sprouse-designed « Rose » motif, which also appeared in this collection, on a silk skirt, was the 1st ever collaboration between Marc Jacobs and an artist, and was reinterpreted, in 2009, on Louis Vuitton’s « Monogram Rose » bags).

Other Stephen Sprouse-influenced collections and items or Stephen Sprouse’s collaborations : Diesel (in 2003, Stephen Sprouse redecorated Diesel’s store, on Union Square, for New York Fashion Week, and designed an exclusive range for Diesel, featuring hats, jeans and T-shirts), Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2006-2007 (Marc Jacobs paid tribute to Stephen Sprouse with pieces that revisited the Stephen Sprouse-designed red and black leopard print), Louis Vuitton X Stephen Sprouse (this line, launched on January 9, 2009, reinterpreted the « Graffiti » motif that Stephen Sprouse had revisited for Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2001 collection, and featured, among other items, graffiti-tagged bags, Bikinis, and jeans with DayGlo details ; for its launch, Louis Vuitton made a donation to the National Academy of Design-Stephen Sprouse Scholarship Fund, and, on December 15, 2008, unveiled the WeLoveSprouse site, dedicated to the artist / designer), Louis Vuitton by Julie de Libran Resort 2010 (this collection featured a scarf, made with different Louis Vuitton’s prints, including a Stephen Sprouse-designed pattern), Miss Sixty Spring/Summer 2008 (Stephen Sprouse-like prints on leggings), Wink Autumn/Winter 2000-2001 (this collection was an homage to Stephen Sprouse).

Keith Haring is one of the graffiti artists from the 80s that were honored in the Louise Gray Spring/Summer 2010 Collection (« Oh no Babe »).

Some Keith Haring-inspired collections or Keith Haring’s collaborations : Albino Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (Keith Haring’s New York), Comme des Garçons X Keith Haring Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (capsule line of printed sweaters and T-shirts, with the Keith Haring Foundation, launched in November 2011), Hervé Léger by Max Azria Resort 2012 (prints), Holly Fulton Autumn/Winter 2009-2010, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac (Keith Haring co-signed a « painting dress », in the early 80s, and designed, in 1990, the invitation card for the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Autumn/Winter 1990-1991 Show), Nicholas Kirkwood Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (12 shoes, with the Keith Haring Foundation, launched in February 2011), Stephen Sprouse (« Day-Glo » outfits in the 80s, with Keith Haring), Tommy Hilfiger (capsule footwear, for Spring/Summer 2010, with the Keith Haring Foundation), Topshop Unique Spring/Summer 2012 (Keith Haring-style hieroglyphic prints), Vivienne Westwood Autumn/Winter 1983-1984 (« Witches » ; moreover, Keith Haring created the invitation card for this World’s End collection).
