Elvis Presley

Other Elvis Presley-influenced collections or items : Isabel Marant Spring/Summer 2013 (partly inspired by Elvis Presley’s pictures in Hawaii), JC/DC for Coca-Cola® (this collection, designed by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and launched for Autumn/Winter 2011-2012, to celebrate Coca-Cola®’s 125th anniversary, featured a gray T-shirt, printed with a photograph of a young Elvis Presley, shot by Alfred Wertheimer), Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Spring/Summer 1986 (« Elvis Presley » dress), Jean Paul Gaultier (for Christmas 2008, his « Classique », « Gaultier² » and « Le Mâle » perfumes were presented in a case, with a music box which played Elvis Presley’s « Love Me Tender »), Marithé + François Girbaud (François Girbaud often took inspiration from rock’ n’ roll, especially from Elvis Presley’s music), Moschino Spring/Summer 2012 Menswear (all Elvis Presley’s periods were referenced in this show), Prada Resort 2012 (the Baracuta jacket that Elvis Presley wore in Michael Curtiz’ «King Creole» inspired some studded pieces), Tommy Hilfiger (Elvis Presley-influenced sweatshirts and T-shirts, in the « Iconic America » line, launched for Spring 2008, with Tommy Hilfiger and George Lois’ eponymous book, published by Universe), Y-3 Spring/Summer 2011 Menswear (Elvis Presley was one of the music icons that were honored in this collection), Zadig & Voltaire (since 1996, Thierry Gillier has often taken inspiration from rock’ n’ roll, especially for Zadig & Voltaire’s iconic « Elvis » message on sweaters).

Some « Avatar »-inspired hairstyles and makeups : Milani (makeup line, launched on February 1, 2010, that promised to reproduce the « Avatar » effect, thanks to 3-D holographic products), Nathan Jenden Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 (the hairstyle, by James Pecis for Bumble and Bumble, featured rows of braids that evoked « Avatar »), Prabal Gurung Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (the makeup, by Charlotte Tilbury, featured blue « Avatar »-style eyes), Valentino Couture by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli Spring/Summer 2010 (the blue spray that covered the eyes and the shoulders were reminiscent of « Avatar »).

Jean-Paul Lespagnard SS13Oranges were one of the themes of the Jean-Paul Lespagnard Spring/Summer 2013 Show (which paid tribute to the Belgian carnival of Binche, where oranges are distributed in the streets).

Other oranges-inspired items : Kapryka Autumn/Winter 2008-2009 (the jewels were wrapped in a perfumed box with a dried orange slice), Kenzo by Delfina Delettrez Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (earrings and rings featuring real orange slices encased in resin), Olympia Le-Tan Spring/Summer 2013 (the « Secret Garden » motif in this collection, illustrated by Pierre Le-Tan, includes « orange slices » drawings), pull-in Spring/Summer 2009 (oranges-printed Bikini), Stella McCartney Spring/Summer 2011 (oranges inspired the « orange citrus botanical » print of this collection), Yazbukey for Z Spoke by Zac Posen Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 (« orange slice » brooch).

Moreover, the Dolce & Gabbana Jewellery Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 campaign, with Bianca Balti, features oranges, among other fruits.

Lucian Freud

Dries Van Noten SS13The fainted florals of the Dries Van Noten Spring/Summer 2013 Collection are based on the women’s flowered dresses paint by Lucian Freud, that Dries Van Noten admired at the Lucian Freud’s retrospective, presented at the National Portrait Gallery, in London, from February 9th until May 27th, 2012.

Moreover, in 2002, Lucian Freud painted « Naked Portrait 2002 », which was the portrait of a pregnant Kate Moss.
