Björk’s music and Gerhard Richter’s art have inspired the MSGM Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show.

Other Björk-inspired collections and some Björk’s collaborations : Alexander McQueen (the late designer made the front cover direction of Björk’s 1997 « Homogenic » album, directed the second video for her 1998 « Alarm Call » single, teamed up with Björk for her performance of « Bachelorette » at the 2003 Fashion Rocks, at London’s Royal Albert Hall ; moreover, Björk sang at Alexander McQueen’s memorial at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral, on September 20, 2010), Jean Paul Gaultier Autumn/Winter 1994-1995 (Björk was one of the models of this show, titled, « The Long Journey / Le Grand voyage », which paid tribute to the Inuit civilization), Johan Ku Spring/Summer 2014 (the dichotomy between fantasy and reality, experienced by Selma, as played by Björk, in Lars von Trier’s « Dancer in the Dark », inspired the 3-D plastic dresses of this show), Oscar de la Renta Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (the raw Mongolia-influenced makeup of this show, by Gucci Westman for Revlon, referenced Björk when she took to the catwalk for Jean Paul Gaultier’s Autumn/Winter 1994-1995 collection), Sophia Kokosalaki (the Greek designer created Björk’s flowing dress for the opening ceremony of Athens’ 2004 Summer Olympic Games).

To read about other Gerhard Richter-inspired collections, search for the « Gerhard Richter » post that I have published on September 14, 2012.

Blue Velvet

Kenzo AW1415

Aaron de Mey’s blue makeup for the Kenzo by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Collection paid homage to David Lynch’s « Blue Velvet » (David Lynch created the set of this show and mixed its soundtrack music).

Other « Blue Velvet »-inspired campaigns and collection : Fenton Autumn/Winter 2013-2014 (the ad campaign for this collection, shot by Hugh Lippe, was based on « Blue Velvet »’s dark atmosphere), H&M (Johan Renck’s campaign video for the H&M Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 Collection, featured Lana Del Rey, who covered Bernie Wayne and Lee Morris’ « Blue Velvet » song), Lulu & Co Spring/Summer 2014 (to describe this collection, Lulu Kennedy told Style.com : « I am probably David Lynch’s biggest fan, and « Mysteries of Love » on the « Blue Velvet » soundtrack really got me thinking about love »).

Other macaroons–inspired items : Boucheron Spring/Summer 2009 (« Tentation Macaron » jewelry line), Eple & Melk Spring/Summer 2009 (this collection included pieces named after sweet delights, such as the « Macaron » T-shirt dress), Kenzo by Antonio Marras (in the Spring of 2011, the « Macaron » clutches were launched), Nike (in the Spring of 2010, Nike produced the « Nike Air Royalty Macaron » sneakers), Vilebrequin Autumn/Winter 2006-2007 (« macaroons » patterns on men and children’s boxer shorts).

To read about Ladurée’s macaroons-inspired pieces or about doughnuts-influenced items, search for the « Ladurée » and the « Doughnuts » posts that I have respectively published on October 9, 2012 and on August 17, 2013.

Serge Poliakoff’s retrospective at the City of Paris’ Museum of Modern Art, « Le Rêve des formes / The Dream of Forms », from October 18, 2013 until February 23, 2014, has influenced the Paul & Joe Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show.

Other Serge Poliakoff-inspired collections : Fendi by Karl Lagerfeld Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 (according to Hamish Bowles, from « Vogue », the fur patchworks in this show evoked Serge Poliakoff’s work), Guy Laroche by Marcel Marongiu Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 (the color palette of this show was based on the « Serge Poliakoff : Le Rêve des formes / The Dream of Forms » exhibition at the City of Paris’ Museum of Modern Art), Jil Sander by Raf Simons Pre-Fall 2011 (this collection featured a brushstroke pattern which took inspiration from Serge Poliakoff’s abstract paintings).
