Empress Elisabeth of Austria (« Sissi ») was one of the inspirations of the Dior by John Galliano Couture Autumn/Winter 2004-2005 Show.

Other Empress Elisabeth of Austria-influenced collections : Emilio Pucci by Peter Dundas Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 (Romy Schneider in Ernst Marischka’s « Sissi » trilogy was one of the references of this collection), Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 (the penultimate look of this show, a Second Empire crinoline, worn by Conchita Wurst, was named « Zizi Imperatrice / Willy the Empress », a pun on « Sissi impératrice », French for Empress Sissi), Roberto Cavalli Autumn/Winter 2004-2005 (Elisabeth of Austria was one of the inspirations of this show).

Twin Peaks

Julien Fournié Couture AW1415 Twin Peaks

The enchanting women of « Twin Peaks » partly influenced the Julien Fournié Couture Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Show, titled « First Impulse / Première Pulsion ».

Another « Twin Peaks »-inspired collection : Kenzo by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 (this collection paid homage to David Lynch’s œuvre, including « Twin Peaks »).

Jean Cocteau

JPG Couture AW34The « Homage to Cocteau / Hommage à Cocteau » look of the surrealism-themed Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Autumn/Winter 2003-2004 Show, titled « Morphing », paid tribute to Jean Cocteau.

Other collections inspired by Jean Cocteau’s art : Bruno Pieters Autumn/Winter 2005-2006 (this collection was influenced by Jean Cocteau and Art Deco), Catherine Malandrino Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 (this show featured a pattern, showcasing 2 profiles, turning into a vase, originally designed by Jean Cocteau for Schiaparelli), Franck Sorbier Couture Spring/Summer 2007 (the « eye » strapless dress was based on Jean Cocteau), Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Pre-Fall 2014 (the starting point of this collection was a lithograph by Jean Cocteau, titled « Je me souviens de l’avenir / I remember the future »), John Galliano Spring/Summer 2011 (one outfit of this Maria Lani-inspired show evoked the portrait of Maria Lani that Jean Cocteau painted).

The Dior by John Galliano Couture Spring/Summer 2009 Show was inspired by Dutch and Flemish painters.

Another Netherlands-inspired collection : Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2007-2008 (the Flemish berets and the colors of this show paid tribute to Dutch and Flemish painters).

Givenchy Couture AW1112

The Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Couture Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 Collection was influenced by Heaven, light, and a pristine vision of angels.

Other Heaven-inspired collections : Betsey Johnson Spring/Summer 2003 (this show was titled « My Blue Heaven »), Prabal Gurung Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 (the themes of this collection, Hell and Heaven, were based on Prabal Gurung’s own spiritual quest), Rick Owens Spring/Summer 2012 (Rick Owens told STYLE.com that the wall of light that framed the catwalk of this show was a « gateway to Heaven »).

JPG Couture SS7The Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring/Summer 2007 Show, titled « Virgins » (or « Madonnas ») / « Les Vierges » (ou « Les Madones »), paid homage to the Virgin (the 23rd look, pictured here, is named « Apparitions »).

Other Virgin-inspired collections : Arkadius Spring/Summer 2002 (this show paid tribute to the adoration of the Virgin), Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 1998 (this collection showcased images of the Virgin Mary), Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Spring/Summer 2013 Menswear (this show, whose starting point was « the cult of communion », featured T-shirts printed with abstract « Virgin Mary » faces), Teenage Millionaire (from 2002, Dougie Williams and Chris Hoy have printed images of the Virgin Mary, with the « Mary Is My Homegirl » slogan, on T-shirts), Versace Autumn/Winter 1991-1992 (in this collection, Gianni Versace made reference to the Virgin and Child).
